The 2nd PATREC Research Forum was held at the University Club, UWA on 19 September 2006. PATREC, Fremantle Ports and the Transport Authority are pleased to sponsor this unique event.

Nearly 70 participants from across Perth attended the forum, which is fast becoming the premier annual event to discuss the findings of research on issues in urban land use/transport interaction, environment and transport, transport safety and security and freight logistics and infrastructure. Forum participants and presentations represented a wide spectrum of interests including commercial property development, property finance, professional consulting and contract management, government and academia. Following the all day forum, over 100 invited guests and forum participants attended an evening social reception at the same venue. His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC, Governor of Western Australia and PATREC Patron addressed invited guests.

C Y O'Connor Prize
The C.Y. O’Connor Prize, awarded for the best paper presented at the Annual PATREC Research Forum, honours an important figure in the history of Australian transport infrastructure development. Charles Yelverton O’Connor (1843-1902) was Western Australia’s Chief Engineer and Acting Manager of Railways from 1891 at a time when the young colony was growing rapidly and needed bold leadership to plan and execute major new infrastructure. He was responsible for establishing much of the State’s early rail network, including the Midland Railway Workshops, completed in 1905, and of a protected harbour at Fremantle. He was also responsible for the bold conception, design and construction of the 600 km Goldfields water pipeline. Wrongly accused of corruptly benefiting from public works contracts, he took his own life on the beach south of Fremantle. For further information please refer to this brochure kindly provided by the Kalgoorlie Goldfields Visitor Centre.

Please Note: Only one prize will be awarded per paper irrespective of multiple authors. The presenter(s) will receive the award on behalf of all authors.

The C.Y. O'Connor Prize is proudly sponsored by Fremantle Ports and the Public Transport Authority.
